Trump Trumps Trump

I thought Donald Trump's last book was his best to date. In the same way that each of his buildings seems to trump his most recent, so too with this book. Trump has once again trumped Trump. This is his best book yet (why do I have a feeling that an even better book is already in process???).

This is an easy book for critics to dismiss as a celebrity fluff piece. But, the book really is far better than that. The fifty short essays, in and by themselves, are first rate commentary on important concepts for business and life. Taken together, the fifty essays provide a wonderful insight into the way Trump thinks and acts. And, gaining an insight into how Trump thinks and acts is worthwhile for he is world's pre-eminent master at personal brand building - a competency needed for almost every successful person.

Each of the fifty essays is well written, and each concept is illustrated by a short story to reinforce the point being made. The result is a book that almost invites speed reading...but I urge readers to slow down and really think through each of the fifty points being made. Even better yet, challenge yourself to grade yourself, as I have, on each of the fifty points. By grading yourself, I expect that you will gain new respect for Trump and new insights into just how brilliant Trump is.

Let's take the example of "You Can Better Your Best at Anytime." The fact that Donald Trump walks the talk with this mantra is readily apparent. Each of his buildings outdoes his previous best. As does each of his books. Etc. Etc. Prior to reading this book, that life philosophy was not woven into the fabric of my life. In a world where many guru's are preaching "good is good enough," Trump exhorts us to make our efforts a masterpiece. Now making everything a masterpiece could easily put someone into a state of frozen perfectionism, but Trump's philosophies also embrace a "get it done" style that is the antithesis to being frozen in perfectionism.

My greatest take-away from the book was one that came indirectly from the book. As I absorbed all that I was reading about Trump, the wisdom of Mike Robbin's terrific book Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Already Taken: Transform Your Life with the Power of Authenticity was heavy on my mind. Trump is the essence of the authenticity that Robbins suggests can be so powerful. As a result of these two books, I now see Trump as being bold, rather than just brash. A man who speaks his mind in a direct manner from which we can all learn. A man whose branding is based on the power of authenticity. And, a man whose real life gift is being a walking example of living an authentic life in an era where so many of our role models have been shown to be so lacking in authenticity.

Awesome book, especially for those who treat it like a classic and really, really reflect on the inner meaning of this collection of fifty thoughtful essays.

50 Motivating Essays from Donald Trump

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump on many fronts has been extremely successful. While some say it's just because he got a good head start from his father, the truth is, Trump would not be where he's at, and would not have succeeded as he's done without many contributing factors. One such factor is his optimistic, positive charged, enthusiastic big thinking. If you want to model success, modeling the way Trump thinks is not a bad place to start. In his book "Think Like A Champion" written with Meredith McIver and starting with a Foreword by Robert Kiyosaki, Trump shares with readers what he calls an informal education in business and life. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the fifty essays in this book, and if you liked any of Trump's previous books, I'm sure you will really like this one.

The essays are mostly two to four pages long, with many being right around two and a half pages. So they are very easy to read. You could read the entire book through quickly, or just pick an essay or two a day. First, I found the essays very positive and uplifting. I think it would be difficult to read this book and not feel a bit motivated to pursue great accomplishments upon reading The Donald's advice and examples. However, I think the book goes beyond a motivational "vanity" piece. The essays really do have substance, and some very practical and sound advice on a variety of topics.

I also like that each essay has a quote at the heading. Trump mentions that he likes quotes, and so do I. The essay titled "Have the Right Mindset for the Job" has a quote by Henry Ford at the heading, "Don't find fault. Find a remedy." I'm using that quote in a conflict resolution program I'm teaching next week.

In one of the essays, Trump mentions how he likes to get right to the point. He does not have time for people that beat around the bush and don't succinctly tell him what they need. I felt he did the same with these essays. They are well written and make his point in just the right amount of space. Some of the fifty topics he covers include: Innovation, Strive for Wholeness, Wisdom, Think Like a Champion, Confronting Your Fears, Financial Literacy, Keep the Big Picture in Mind, Develop a Tempo When You're Working, Think Like a Genius, Set the Standard, and Building Your Reputation.

Again, I really enjoyed this book and felt Trump was writing thoughtfully and authentically. If you really think about what is contained in these essays and how you can apply the themes, strategies, and suggestions to your own life, I truly believe you will find they help you along your journey toward success. On top of that, they will motivate you to actually succeed in business and in life.

The book keeps form with Mr. Trumps value for brevity in that it is concise, only 198 pages, but offers his valuable insight on an informal education on business and life from a seasoned entrepreneur.

Trump places a quote atop each chapter by such individuals as Albert Einstein, Aristotle, Henry Ford, Napoleon, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, Henry David Thoreau, etc. Some of the author's suggestions that I found valuable include:

"Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is progress, working together is success. - Henry Ford" (11).
"...a good way to handle difficult and even tragic times - to find blessing in the midst of adversity" (14).
"Never think of learning as being a burden or studying as being boring. It may require some discipline, but it can be an adventure" (17).
"The more you learn, the more you realize what you don't know" (35).
"As Jack Dempsey said, "A champion is someone who gets up when he can't" (39).
"I view my work as an art form" (43).

Provides A Peek Deep Inside China -

State engagement in health government governance is a relatively recent development in rapidly modernizing China - the government's first health-care moves post-Mao were to withdraw from the sector, acerbating problems of cost, access, and equality; average life expectancy rose by only five years between 1981 and 2009, compared to an increase of almost 33 years during the Mao era (1949-1980). To be fair, its initial improvements (35 to 67.9) came from a much lower base, yet other nations have improved more from a similar base in recent years.

Infant/maternal mortality has made considerable strides recently. Infant mortality in China decreased from 38 deaths/1,000 live births in 1990 to 16 in 2010, and the mortality rate for children under five dropped from 48 per 1,000 live births to 18. The maternal mortality ratio has also fallen, from 110 per 100,000 live births in 1990 to 38 in 2008.

Another substantial improvement - TB cases in 2010 China were estimated at 216 per 100,000, down 45% from 2000.

Chronic non-communicable diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular are the leading causes of death in China - with pollution contributing to at least the cancer death rates. Public opinion surveys in 2009 ranked health care and food and drug safety as among the nation's top three concerns. A major contributor was the introduction of market-oriented reform w/o adequate rule of law.

Industrial pollution is not the only instance of conflict between economic and health goals. China has one-third of the world's smokers and suffers about one million related deaths/year; its cardiovascular disease death exceeds that in the U.S.

Author Huang suggests separating public hospital ownership from management and ceasing the use of drug sales as the main revenue source for hospitals, similar to Taiwan. (Of every $100 spent on U.S. health care, $10-$12 goes for drugs, in China it is $40-$45.) He also suggests replacing fee-for-service with DRG and capitation to give those hospitals incentive to hold down costs and improve accountability. As for food and drug safety, Huang sees weak enforcement as the greatest problem, sometimes based on 'political consideration' (corruption), especially at the local level. This problem is acerbated by the absence of press freedom.

The 'good news' is the incoming president Xi Jinping has pledge to bring higher levels of health care to China's people - Beijing plans to triple its health care spending to $1 trillion by 2020.

Bottom-Line: China spent less than 5% of GDP on health care in 2005, vs. 16% in the U.S. and 10% in Canada. However, China's advantage in purchasing power parity leads author Huang and others to probably overstate the crisis in China's health-care as far as financial commitment is concerned; this is especially likely given that the author's estimates of government spending have been labeled as far too low (Tang, Baris). It also has initiated a program of encouraging Western hospitals to invest in China. A third major initiative - expanding health insurance to universal levels by 2020 (now reportedly at over 94%, though at low benefit levels that focus on in-patient care).

About the Author

Dr. Read has over 40 years experience as a practitioner and consultant in the mining industry, with special interests and expertise in rock slope stability. In 1990 Dr Read began his own geotechnical engineering practice. Since then he has specialised in slope stability and open pit mine slope design and investigation tasks in Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Canada, South Africa, and Zambia. Not for a professional and recycled materials from previous publications

I was excited by the title of this book because as a koi enthusiast since I was a little boy, I know how hard it can be to get something beyond the introductory level text on these beautiful fish.

When I got this, book, I was disappointed since, as soon as I opened it, I recognized both pictures and the information. I turned to my bookshelf to see if I could find this book already there, but with a little digging I realized I didn't have this book but much of it is RECYCLED MATERIALS from "Koi and Garden Pools: A Complete Introduction" by Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod (Jan 1, 1987) and "Koi of the World by Dr. Axelrod" (Jun 1973) (both from TFH Publications). Some of the text is almost word for word, and Ms. Barrie liberally used photographs from both of these texts. I was extremely saddened to see that TFH Publications would even print such a similar text.

This is definitely not a book for professionals, not by any leap of the imagination, and the information is no more contemporary than the aforementioned books by Dr. Axelrod (those books are both very nice, though, and Dr. Axelrod is THE authority on koi in my opinion). If you already own those books, don't make the mistake that I made by purchasing this one. However, if you are looking for an introduction (a quite uninformative one, however), this book might suit your needs.

The Professional's Book of Koi

I am totally thrilled with this book! I wouldn't trade it
for "all" of the Koi books that I have seen in the pet stores.
Both the information and the photos are "top notch"!
This book has high quality "thick" pages with loads of color and
is in an "easy" and "fun to read format".
Just think, for the price of two Koi magazines,
you can have this great "Hardbound" book.
I'm sure you will both "treasure" and "enjoy" it!

This is no book for the Professional.

The Professional's Book of Koi is little more than a beginner's book with inferior photography. Anyone who has cared for koi for more than a few weeks will very little that is not available in dozens of other beginners books. That this might be a book useful for even the serious amateur is laughable. It was a waste of my money and anyone else's foolish enough to purchase it.

Fascinating insight into a true case

This is the type of book you can't put down. Don Rabon dissects court transcripts and other written and verbal communication to give us a look into the real-life case of a young man who seems to have everything going for him. Yet this professional with a good reputation in a small Southern town ends up in federal prison. Why? Mr. Rabon tells us in Alex Klosek's own words. Excellent reading for anyone interested in human psychology and why people do what they do.

Don Rabon hits it out of the ballpark. A compelling story with a personal twist, formatted to keep you enthralled, but also thinking. What would you do? Where would you look next? What dynamics are in play? I will come back to this book, recommend it to colleagues and clients, and be the first to start a professional book club where we can discuss the points to ponder. Fascinating...and a true picture into the methods by which fraudsters manipulate their victims.

A delightful journey through the criminal mind

This book is a fascinating account of the Ponzi scheme which unfolded not too far from Don Rabon's hometown. I found the story absolutely fascinating from start to finish. It provides both insight into the criminal mind, as well as providing a lot of "food for thought" that is invaluable for any investigator or auditor with interests in investigating white collar crime. The book's format is a little different, making this book an excellent choice for reference or even for use in a college course on fraud and investigations. The book also includes the key transcripts and testimony from the trial, which really adds to the book's value. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in white collar crime or fraud investigations.

An interesting diversion.

Even though the second half of the novel is mostly about the punishment and the seduction of two young girls (without much actual sex), "Sadopaiedia" is still an interesting erotic novel. Fans of the whipping/spanking genre will probably enjoy all the permutations explored by Cecil and the ladies. If you're looking for a lot of "regular" sex, this isn't the book for you. After the first half, where Cecil "comes into his own" as the submissive who becomes dominant, it's mostly about whipping the girls and the oral arts. The examination of the complex "harem" Cecil creates and manages makes me wonder if there's a sequel.

The Best since "The Story of O"

Hello everyone,
I have to say that this is the best SM book I have ever read since the classic "Story of O". Period.
And what's great about it is not just the punishment scenes. Oh, those are very well written. The best abou this book is the characters. They are so well portrayed that you actually feel that you know them.
And you have one character of each kind. The dominant aunt and her companion (the narrator, Cecil), the submissive maid and in the midle of the story come two young teenangels to spend the summer with them.
Two girls. One voluptuous and dazzling but shy and obedient. The other a tomboy, defiant and rebel. They both will learn a lot during their stay. Specially the first one, Gladys. I don't think I ever saw such a beautifully portrayed character in an SM novel. The way she reacts before her first punishment, the way she endures the sufferin and yet submits. It's quite a thrill.
Then there is the submissive maid alway being punished for the smallest fault and accepting it with submission.
Another thrill is to see the love triangle that begins to form in that house, the jealousy and the pain it causes. In the end, when the girls are totally surrendered to their hosts perversions, it's great to see the kind of games they organize ...............
Like I said, it's just terrific. It was the first SM book I read after "The Story of O" and after reading many others, this one still beats all.

One of the BEST Blue Mooon boks around

A two volume 250 page victorian tale of the experiences of Cecil Pendergast a young Oxford undergraduate who gets an education in the ways of erotic love at it's best.
The alluring widow, Ms Muriel Harcourt (I've seen this name in many of the best of erotic literature through the years... it must have meant soemthing for the victorians ... ) teaches a willling and sufficiently submissive Cecil where real pleasure can be derived and for more than a fleeting moment. She certainly, and the author does complete justice, know how to suck the fruits of joy out of life and treats her encounters like a delicious meal to be enjoyed ...
Although I'm definitely not into S&M this book knows where its should start and stop ... what a masterfull peice of writing to accomplish that ....
A MUST HAVE for your library ... Dont let the title fool you it is THE BEST ... loved it!

Delightful and Insightful Look at Russians!

One of the surprises of this last week for me was the gift of this book from a close friend who had just returned from a publishers' convention. Knowing me as a Russophile (someone who enjoys Russian culture), he purchased this short little book (64 pages), which bills itself as:
"An irreverent look at the beliefs and foibles of nations, almost guaranteed to cure Xenophobia."
The basic gimmick is to describe a country and its' culture through the use of sarcasm and humor. It really works! I laughed out loud several times while reading it.
I have spent the better part of a lifetime studying and living Russian culture and this little book did an incredibly humorous and enjoyable job of describing it. I think that if I ever return to higher education, I'll use this book along any introduction to Russian language, literature, or culture.
Here's a short excerpt (rear cover):
"Russians treat the law like a telegraph pole: you cannot jump over it, but you can go around it. It does not matter in the least what the law is about, because laws in principle cannot be good or useful to the man on the street. This is probably the only law every Russian would agree with. So, when you absolutely must not, but want to very much, you may."
The whole book is just as humorous with little mini-essays about a variety of topics including: character, attitudes and values, manners, custom and tradition, and many many other topics. This small little book would probably be much more useful to a businessman or tourist wanting to get more out of a visit to Russia.
I highly recommend this humorous little book.

Xenophone's Guide to the Russians, written by a foreigner???

I have not been impressed by the book. Maybe it is humorous (not much, really), but is quite ignorant. In order to write a book about another culture you have to live there for quite a long time, not just take a trip. I would recommend Vladimir Zhelvis's book instead.

Certainly an interesting book. But remember, not all Russians fall into the stereotypes depicted in this book. For example: Not all Russians are alcoholics!
