I Liked It But...

Let me start by saying this is my first book that I have read from this author and though I liked the writing style and overall dialog, I felt the book came up short in the end tying loose ends and answering enough questions. It jusf left me feeling incomplete. SLIGHT SPOILERZ AHEAD!!!

Basic story...two peopld meet on a plane: humble Teri and rich playgirl Gina. Teri wants someone to be with on Christmas and Gina just wants Teri. Throw in a few complications and you got yourself a good plot.

So why only 3 stars? The two main characters spend about 50% of the book apart and I didn't feel thejr initial connections portrayed enough to me or had enough depth shown for the year of longing apart. Then when they are reunited after a year I wasn't given enough dialog or interaction between the two to feel the connection (it was established in a few paragraphs). Plus the beginning didnt tie to the end...the first gifts what happened to them, what is the real story behind Insa and Gina, what happens after...

I did like the book. Will I reread it...probably not. Do I regret reading it...no way. This wasn't my full cup of tea but I did enjoy the few hours I spent reading it.

Anabela Mesquita is a professor at the Institute of Administration and Accountancy (ISCAP)/Polytechnic School of Porto (IPP), Portugal. She is also an invited researcher at the Algoritmi R & D Center, Information Systems Group, at the University of Minho (Portugal). She lectures courses related to business communication, information society, and digital storytelling. Dr. Mesquita's research interests include knowledge and innovation management, impact of information systems in organization, life long learning at higher education levels, and e-learning. She also has been involved in several European and national research projects.

Dr. Mesquita has published numerous papers in various international journals and conference proceedings. She has been a member of the programme committee and scientific committee of several national and international conferences, in most cases also serving as referee. She serves as Member of the Editorial Board and referee for IGI Global. She also serves as Associate Editor of the Information Resources Management Journal. She serves as referee for the Journal of Cases of Information Technology. She has also been evaluator and reviewer for European commission projects.

A Good Survey of Protestantism and Society.

"Reformation and Society" begins as a study of the leaders and the reformation movements in countries like Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Scotland, and Britain to name a few.The Hussites, Thomas Cromwell, Stephen Gardiner, and William Tyndale are some of the notable sceptics of the papacy. Of course A.G. Dickens devotes more time to covering the better known trio of Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin.

The book examines some of the causes of the Reformation and the importance of universities and the printing press in fueling the reformation.

A look at the societies of Luther's Germany and other countries involved in varying degrees to the movement.

The influence that Thomas Wyttenbach had on Zwingli was interesting as was the failed attempt by Philip of Hesse to reconcile Luther and Zwingli. While the leaders of the Reformation had a common opponent in the Catholic church, their views were anything but universal.

The author descibed the different beliefs of various sects of Anabaptism and their suffering at the hands of both Catholics and Protestants.

"Reformation and Society" was a useful read on the Reformation and it's effects on a number of countries and societies. The squabbles over different viewpoints such as the view of communion in relation to Christ's physical body. Various views on spiritualism were also examined.
Overall an educational book well worth reading.

A classic, secular recounting of events in 16th Century Europe. I had an old (45 years!) paperback version that fell apart when I re-read it recently. Was very pleased to find a hardcover, used edition to replace it in my library.

New Age Healing Handbook

Rather a disappointment as none of the ads for this book hinted at the strong new age slant of the healing techniques. For each health topic the remedies cover areas like Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda, Flower Remedy/Essence Therapy, Food Therapy, Homeopathy, Hyrotherapy, Imagery, Juice Therapy, Massage, Reflexology, Relaxation & Meditation, Vitamin & Mineral Therapy and Yoga. Most of these would seem to appeal to the esoteric new age mindset. In my opinion, about 30 percent of the 700+ page book are based upon useful scientific data. Overall, it was disappointing. I am glad I bought the paperback version and not the $20+ hardback copy.

good overall intro: Covers many areas with helpful sketches

I already owned 2 great books: "Prescription for Nutritional Healing ..." by James F., Md. Balch, Phyllis A. Balch and Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, by Michael T. Murray et al. I Found the translation of Gottlieb's book in Farsi for my mom in Westwood California. I was amazed by the variety of different info/techniques offered. From Herbs to Aromatherapy, from water therapy to cognitive therapy, from Yoga to Accupressure with pressure point charts. It sold for $18 and I thought it was well worth it. The 800 pages still can not delve too deeply into every thing. For example, 20 or 30 pictures in Yoga poses can only be a quick review of the most important moves, but it is a very nice intro for people who need to take the first step into better nutrition and healthy thinking. I am still amazed that this book has not gotten the attention it deserves in this country when books by John Gray sell like hot cookies. My mom who had blood pressures and did not yet believe too much in alternative medicine (with a triple-board physician son) is hooked on this book. I have not found any wrong info imo in this book yet, whereas I find half of the best selling "natural healing" worthless and inaccurate. hope this helps.
