Very Helpful

Recently I bought this book and immediately made some textual changes to my company website based upon the contents of this and "Hot Button Marketing" by Barry Feig. The two mixed together have already begun to pay dividends in terms of conversions of visitors into prospects which will lead to customers and/or partners.

The lessons I learned as I read some of the material:

1) You may believe you're using the right words to sell (as I did prior to reading over the book), but there are always improvements that can be made.

2) Have fun--if your current campaign isn't working as well as you'd like, tweak the copy by using some of the suggestions in this book to see if a different word sprinkled in here and there improves things. It's interesting to see what a little change can do as enough of them can add up to one big success over time.

In a nutshell, this book is a great reference to have handy regardless of what you're selling.

A Copy Writing Thought Stimulator

This is one of my favorite references. Whenever I have to draft copy, I page through it for ideas. To sell your product (in my case books), you have to describe it in (glowing) terms that relate to the needs of the potential buyer.
Bayan describes Grabbers (heads, salutations, invitations, openings, transitions), Descriptions and Benefits, Clinchers (persuasion and decision), Terms & Offers (discounts, freebies, trials, guarantees), and Special Strategies (company image, justifying a high price, knocking the competition, using demographics, flattering the reader, and appealing for contributions). Each section has pages of suggested phrasing. The appendix contains puffspeak-and its alternatives, wordy expressions, commonly confused words and more. This is not a book you read; it is a quick reference.
Richard Bayan is a full-time copywriter who shares his collection of WORDS THAT SELL in these pages.

This book is far from your standard, disenfranchised rant, partially since the Phineas Priests have been a part of several notorious criminal cases, partially because the movement is rigorous and scholarly as it uses Biblical texts to support out-of-bounds beliefs, and partially because the author, Hoskins, is a real writer who grounded his research with lots of contact with Priests (many of whom could only be reached through the mail due to the fact that they were incarcerated!)

Apparently, this book is the first formal explication of (and endorsement of) the Priesthood. It is much more interested in history than in summarizing current sensational events. Hoskins has been around for a while, being the author of the 1958 book Our White Race.

The first edition is from 1990, hardback without dustjacket, black and white pictorial covers. In later printings, Hoskins' name is in an over-sized font. The sewn binding is a cheap one, prone to cracking.

No really.. it is simple!

Dr. Peck's Pedi Review actually was simplified. I preferred to use it over my required textbook because it was so clear and concise. It gave me exactly what I needed without spending 20 hours reading. Personally I am a visual learner and loved the charts that broke the information down. The humorous acronyms and mnemonics helped me to remember content right off the top of my head (super useful while in clinical). While taking my exams, I literally would recall the funny image, acronym, or mnemonic on the subject presented in the test question in order to help me answer it. I am such a fan of the book that I passed mine along to underclassmen at my nursing school and have shared it with friends in the (pedi) Occupational Therapy field.

Dr. Staley has served as an editorial consultant for various peer-reviewed journals and sits on the editorial board for The Angle Orthodontist.

Neil T. Reske, M.A., also from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, teaches dental students, orthodontic residents, and pediatric dentistry residents the principles and techniques of laboratory appliance fabrication.

Good basic info

We used this in Ushuaia. Good basic info, but the restaurants and museums were way off. The food in their recommended restaurants was poor, and the museums they recommended were way less interesting than other options. That being said - there aren't a ton of great Pategonia guidebooks out there, this one is recent, and most of their other information is solid. Still worth it if you are going.

Hexes and Pixie Dust

This is a very solid anthology. There are some exhilarating highs, as well as a couple of stories that fall a bit flat on their face, although of course that's only my opinion. But the overall quality of the writing is very good. I must say I was very excited to read new stories from JCP, Ginn Hale, Astrid Amara and Nicole Kimberling as I've found them to be excellent writers, and I wasn't disappointed. Lou Harper is a new acquaintance I'm certainly glad to have made here.

Rhys Ford - Dim Sum Asylum (3 stars)
Was pleasantly surprised by this one. The setting was pretty interesting, as were the characters.

Ginn Hale - Swift and the Black Dog (5 stars)
Ginn Hale's 'Rifter' (especially the first book) is one of those stay-up-all-night kinds of stories, and reading this short took me back there. While there are many differences between the stories, both have the same kind of feel of desperation, ruin, loss and love in them. You might guess the 'big reveal' before it comes here, but that doesn't really matter.

KJ Charles - A Queer Trade (4 stars)
Found this one really cute and unusual!

Nicole Kimberling - Magically Delicious (5 stars)
I adored Keith and Gunther in 'Cherries Worth Getting' (the 'Irregulars' anthology) and was very glad to find them in this anthology as well. The story flows well and has a nice amount of humour (the part where Keith and Carrot Beard/Top investigate the Primal Thunder Bottling Company facility made me giggle). All the lovely, small details make this a very enjoyable read.

Jordan Castillo Price - Everyone's Afraid of Clowns (4 stars)
I've come to expect great things from JCP, which is why I might be judging her too harshly here. The story was quite interesting but predictable in a way I've never found JCP's stories to be before. It might be because it's a PsyCop short and the characters can only act in ways previously established in earlier stories, but in some ways this story felt rather repetitive. We do find out some new things about Vic, and it's a fun Halloween-themed short but I couldn't help but feel that it lacked that bit of something that's usually there in everything JCP writes.

Jordan L. Hawk - The Thirteenth Hex (3 stars)
The dialogue made me cringe a few times, unfortunately. The story was rather okay, though.

Charlie Cochet - The Soldati Prince (2 stars)
No offense to fanfiction, but unfortunately this story reads like a very trope-y, predictable one. The characters were all right, although a bit cliché, and I didn't become very interested or invested in them at any point. Short stories can be difficult to write, I understand that, since you don't have that much space to explore your characters, but many authors in this anthology are very good examples on how to do it right. Cochet just isn't one of them, although I feel terrible stating that.

Lou Harper - One Hex Too Many (5 stars)
Having not read anything by Lou Harper before, to me this story was certainly the gem in this collection. Loved the story, loved the characters (although Hugh Fox is still a bit of a mystery and the sex/attraction part was a bit rushed, maybe there'll be a sequel?).

Andrea Speed - Josh of the Damned vs. The Bathroom of Doom (2 stars)
Not my kind of story (see story title), especially as I had no previous knowledge of the characters, which seemed mandatory in order to bond with the characters at least on some level. The stoner friend I did like, though.

Astrid Amara - The Trouble With Hexes (5 stars)
Another favourite of mine in this collection. Amara's characters are always very human.

I love this book

I have been a fan of Jordan Castillo Price for a long time, and she was the reason I bought this book in the first place. I am so glad I did. Each author brings their own hilarious sensibility to their story, and I have discovered several new favorite authors, and I am excited to delve deeper into this unique genre.

Diary of a Bibliophile Review

When I saw the lineup of these authors, I wanted to squee with joy! The best of the best in M/M paranormal all in one collection. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint!

Let me start by saying, I’m not a short fiction reader. I don’t read short stories, and I rarely will read a novella. I like the room for character development found in big books. So if it weren’t for all of my favorite authors in one place, I probably would’ve skipped this collection.

But holy frijoles! I’m soooo glad I didn’t.

These authors are the best for a reason. They can pack a lot of punch in a short piece. It helped that several of the stories (Jordan Castillo Price, K.J. Charles, Andrea Speed) are from existing series that I am already a fan of. And – full disclosure – I received a free e-book in exchange for an honest review, but the first thing I did when I finished reading was to run to Amazon and buy the paperback for my collection. It is that freaking good!

DIM SUM ASYLUM by Rhys Ford – Great story to start the collection. It’s fast paced and set in a beautifully gritty Chinatown. While I love all of Rhys’s work, I can really see how she has grown as a writer in the last year or two. I really hope she does not with this world and the characters, because they are a delight. The scene on the rooftop was my favorite. 5 stars.

SWIFT AND THE BLACK DOG by Ginn Hale – I am a sucker for damaged men. Jack Swift is the poster boy for a broken hero. He is sort of at rock bottom, and doing his best to convince himself he is happy there, when he is reluctantly called upon to save the world for a second time. The way Ginn was able to weave in the back story with the present action was brilliantly done. 5 stars.

A QUEER TRADE by K.J. Charles – I’m on a massive K.J. Charles kick right now. This story is set in her Magpie universe, which I just binge read a couple of weeks ago. I found the historical profession of a paper trader fascinating. And the twist at the end was a treat. 5 stars.

MAGICALLY DELICIOUS by Nicole Kimberling – This story was hilarious! I loved the naughty Leprechauns on strike. The ending was slightly predictable, but a fun story. 4 ½ stars.

EVERYONE’S AFRAID OF CLOWNS by Jordan Castillo Price – My favorite PsyCops celebrating Halloween. What’s not to like? Of course, since Vic is involved we know things won’t go as planned. A detour into one of those cheesy haunted houses turns just plain creepy, and that was before the ghost clown shows up. *shiver* 5 stars.

THE THIRTEENTH HEX by Jordan L. Hawk – I’m not a fan of shifter stories, but this one isn’t quite in that category. Maybe if all shifters were as interesting and unique as this one, I might change my mind. Dominic and Rook are brilliant together. The way the magic system is set up here is really cool. These two character need their own series. 5 stars.

THE SOLDATI PRINCE by Charlie Cochet – I am generally turned off by fated mates stories, but this one was entertaining. Riley is a smart-ass and Khalon is a bit of a prick, but both manage to be likable. In typical Charlie fashion, there are some funny one-liners. And you know, Tigers. 4 stars.

ONE HEX TOO MANY by Lou Harper – I love cop stories, especially when they involve magic. The plot started with a body in a bathtub and unfolded into an intricate mystery. Mike Mulligan was great, but it was Leslie that stole every scene. What a delightful supporting character! There is a perfect balance between serious detective work and humor. 5 stars.

JOSH OF THE DAMNED VS. THE BATHROOM OF DOOM by Andrea Speed – This is Clerks meets The Walking Dead meets a Kohler commercial? I am a huge fan of Andrea’s Infected series, but this is my first introduction to Josh of the Damned. Hilarious! I am running out to buy the other books now. Many stories in this collection have an element of humor, but animated toilets with teeth? How does she think of this stuff? 5 stars.

THE TROUBLE WITH HEXES by Astrid Amara – This one for me was the most emotional of the collection. It is also the longest. Tim is dying of a hex, and the only person he can turn to is his ex-boyfriend, Vincent. These guys have so many unresolved issues, but if they can’t find a way to set those aside, Tim will run out of time. I loved the alternating POV here, because both men had valid sides of the story to tell. I loved this story because it leaves you with this amazing feeling that love will conquer all. 5 stars!

So overall, this collection is a must have for all readers of M/M. It is a jewel of the genre.

Chaldean Numerology rings true MUCH more than I could've imagined

I've had Numerology readings and looked up the meanings of my name and birthday using the Pythagorean Theory. I never felt the readings were very accurate and thought there must be more to it. A year or so ago, I found someone who had readings to see if the name you were using was beneficial for you. She combined Chaldean with Pythagorean. This was the first time I had ever even heard of another method besides the Pythagorean. I was looking on the Llewellen Publishing website and I found H Alicia Lagan's book and was interested to learn more. When I read the interpretations, it made so much more sense to me. It makes sense that the Vibration of the letter corresponds to a particular number rather than just the order it falls in. My first name, Joanne corresponds to a 6 which is the same as my life path number with Chaldean Numerology. The 6 life path also makes so much more sense and rings true for me than the 4 Life path of Pythagorean Numerology. I never thought the 4 fit how I saw myself.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Chaldean Numerology for Beginners: . . ." Ms Lagan's style makes it very easy to follow and understand. I finished reading it in about two days. I've been purchasing books and never get past the first couple pages before I get side tracked and set it down again. This book was different. It's the first book I've finished reading in several years. I enjoy how she speaks of the Tarot in her descriptions of the meaning of the numbers. Her celebrity samples are also helpful because I've heard of them and can see what point she is making.

I feel this book is a "Must have" for anyone interested in learning about their highest potential. That's another nice thing about the book, H Alicia shows you what to strive for to be the person you were meant to be. It's also helpful to see how to better understand family and friends :-)

I've never taken the time to write a review about anything. I think this book is worthwhile for anyone to read and enjoy.

In Depth and Accurate

This book is a must have for beginning Chaldean Numerology, and I have been working through the book with my wife since it came out on Kindle. The amount of information contained is amazing, and well worth the price for priceless knowledge. There is only one flaw that I see on my Kindle, nothing to do with the writing, in which Heather Lagan does an excellent job, complete with great mental visualization of the concepts she covers, as well as an easy system to memorize the number assignments to the letters. I memorized the chart within 24 hours. Her "Quirky Phrases" are used to great effect to help memorize the chart quickly. The flaw is in the formatting of the chart at the beginning, and some readouts here and there in the book, nothing to do with Heather's efforts. The chart at the beginning is off because of the formatting, so you don't know exactly which column some of the letters fall under. Later in the book, she goes over them, which is how I sorted the chart out. When, and yes, WHEN, you buy this book, make sure that you look at the end of Chapter 4, where you will find all of the quirky phrases under "Test Yourself" to make sure your number assignments are correct. IMHO, I feel that the charts should have been images that wouldn't be affected by formatting. No matter what size font I use, the chart is still off. It would also be nice to have the TOC in the "Go To" option on Kindle. All I did was bookmark the TOC, each number and letter, and it works out great! The info and method she teaches more than makes up for this, the formatting of the text is great, and her writing style draws you in, she is definitely a communicator! I have been using Pythagorian Numerology until now, and this system is much more mystic, delves deeper into the inner self, and helps to create an awakening of our Spiritual essence. Highly recommended to those seeking higher knowledge of themselves, those around them, and to help give our lives Purpose. It had my wife and me laughing, crying, and nodding our heads in agreement. Top notch writing and accurate information from beginning to end. She made me a true believer in Chaldean Numerology, and I've been doing nothing but number crunching everywhere I go now.

She also makes references to some of the Major Arcana of the Tarot, and they transition flawlessly.

If this is the beginner's book, it's the most complete book on Numerology I have, and I have quite a few, none as descriptive and in depth as this one is! I'm awaiting an Intermediate, and an Advanced one down the road! (hint hint!)

If everyone in the world used this book and applied the teachings of our numbers and the significance of the letters in names, we would all be living in a brighter, understanding world.

EDIT: 1/29/12 I ordered the paperback as well and am more than delighted to have that at home and use my kindle version on the road. I use this book on a daily basis. The best and most practical book on Numerology that I own. I totally agree with the system presented and the results have proven accurate since I've been using Chaldean. I'm sold on this system, and this is definitely the best book to get started with. It really covers the system more than you would think a beginner's book would do. And yes Heather...I'm still begging for another book of your vast knowledge of the Chaldean System! :)

Chaldean Numerology by Heather Alicia Lagan is an in-depth book that teaches you how to read numerology for yourself and others. This may be written as a beginner's guide, but it would be well received by anyone who studies numerology at any level.

Chaldean Numerology is different from the average book on numerology I've read before. Heather Alicia Lagan takes it to the next level, and gave me the inspiration to read not just my own numerology, but also family members and friends.

She teaches it in this book in a very easy to read and understand way that made me really want to try it out for myself. The results were amazing! My personal numerology was quite accurate in many places. When I did the readings on a few family members, I found that it was accurate for them as well. So, I was very pleased with the book and new knowledge I now have on numerology.

If you enjoy looking for patterns, have an interest in astrology, and of course numbers, I think this book would be a perfect fit for you to read and learn more about numerology. I found it to be a fun book that I will reference again and again. I highly recommend it.
