About the Author
Franco Galli joined San Francisco-based II Fornaio America in 1987 where he oversees recipe development and menu-creation, in essence defining the culinary identity of the organization's renowned bakeries, restaurants, and cafes. A native of the small town of Carpendolo in northern Italy, he has worked in professional kitchens since the age of ten.

Visit one of the best Italian kitchens without leaving yours

For anyone that has had the opportunity to visit one of their restaurants, now you can enjoy their baked goods at home. All of their receipes are fairly easy to follow and follow you must! These dishes are a lot like a science project. mix the wrong item or quantity and it is all over. Follow closely and you will be rewarded with some of the finest breads and desserts around. The Tiramisu receipe is one of the best around. I have served it several times and it is a party favorite. I have tried countless other receipes and found this one the best their is. The soups can make a complete meal in themselves. Buy this book and you won't regret it.

Great Bread

The recipes in this book are described so well that even a novice baker will turn out world class loaves of bread. All through my college years I worked in a Pizza restaurant. I made pizza dough by following the directions on the 25lb bag of pizza flour. That had been my only baking experinece, but after deciding to attempt baking bread at home, I bought this book. My first loaf turned out better than anything I could buy at a supermarket.

With my husband having been in the bakery trade and having a GREAT appreciation for the art of bread baking, we found this book the easiest of all! It will help me master the Nancy Silverton LaBrea Bread baking book, which I also treasure. Like anything done well it takes practice... and the aromas are worth the work. Thank goodness for my KitchenAid mixer!

Wonderful Christmas piano pieces

Carol Tornquist never fails to arrange familiar songs in a unique way while giving the pianist a challenge and a lovely composition for private or public listening. I received this piano book in great condition and in a timely manner from Amazon.

There are a lot of arrangements in this book and they are all nice. Again, you don't have to work that hard to learn them so you can have them ready in no time. You will have plenty of Christmas music to get you through the Christmas season.

I am always fascinated by distributed processes. How can we design algorithms or protocols for them that work? Fokkink gives a unique introduction to the many original concepts and methods in distributed computing that we know today. A truly insightful book.

Many of the algorithms given in the book assume ... messages are not lost and nodes do not die...

Review based on the first 7 chapters.

The book skips proofs and just explains why the algorithms work, often with examples and pictures. This I like very much.

Caveat: Many of the algorithms given in the book assume a model of distributed computation where messages are not lost and nodes (processes) do not die. In other words, many of these algorithms are not applicable in modern Google-style shared-nothing distributed computing, where you have 1000s of components in a datacenter, and at any one time, a number of them will be failing or unreachable. These are algorithms for multiple processes (processors) in a single computer, where message passing is reliable and processes don't randomly die. That's fine, but I wish the book's title or description would have been clear about this.

Since most of my past readings were in algorithms that work in the case of failures and message loss (like Paxos) I did find the book educational.

Great book, for what it proposes

As the author claims in the preface, this book is targeted to senior undergrad or graduate students, and its goal is to teach distributed algorithms without delving too much into their proofs. That is, the book mostly shows only the intuition of why the algorithms works, through proof sketches, examples and lots of figures. If what you want learn to prove your own algorithms, then you should look for another book. Actually, you should first look at this book to understand how to simply convey the intuition, and then go look into Lamport's TLA+ book.

There's a lot of depth here

Few texts in Distributed Algorithms strike a balance between rigor and accessibility; this one does. Recommended for the practitioner in distributed systems ; a careful reading will supply the theoretical foundation for thinking about problems in distributed computing. Note that there is very little code here , but a great deal of thinking is required to get something from this text. (Sorry for brevity ... typed on my iphone)

Der Schmetterling war tot. Ich hatte ihn getötet.

About the Author
Amy Braziller is an English faculty member and former department chair at Red Rocks Community College. She received her B.A. from Empire State College and her M.A. from New York University. Amy has presented on teaching writing and new media at numerous national and regional conferences. Her research focuses on the intersections between classroom and personal writing. Amy, who is at work on a series of personal essays related to her punk rock days in NYC, blogs about food, film, music, GLBT issues, and social media distractions at amybraziller.com. She is co-author (with Elizabeth Kleinfeld) of The Bedford Book of Genres.

Elizabeth Kleinfeld is the Writing Center Director and an Associate Professor of English at Metropolitan State College of Denver. She received her B.S. from Bradley University, and her M.S. in English and Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric from Illinois State University. Liz is a contributing researcher on The Citation Project and has published essays on new media, writing centers, and student source use in various journals and collections, including Computers & Composition Online. She is co-PI on a grant to develop a program on academic literacy for at-risk students, particularly migrants. Her current research focuses on how writing centers can intervene in students’ research processes. Liz is co-author (with Amy Braziller) of The Bedford Book of Genres.

Required college book. A different style than I'm used to.

I had to have this book for a college level English class and honestly I thought it was just alright. The way it teaches is very different than any other English books I've ever had. That can be a pro and a con. At times it got me to think outside of the box while others it confused me.

Inspirational Role Model for All

The story of NBA basketball player Klay Thompson is a valuable read, not because he had to over come hardship or tragedy to get where he is today, but because of the quiet and calm manner in which he has learned and processed the rules and become the success he is today.

Klay Thompson was a player who listened to his father, learned his lessons well and has his head on straight. It's refreshing to see an NBA star who learned how to budget and live well within his means from his parents. So many players go bankrupt when their careers are over because they never learned the basic lessons of saving money and budgeting.

Klay is also a role model in that he does not get in trouble. There was one recorded incident in college that made such an impact on Klay that he has kept his nose clean and has lived an incredibly tame life for a basketball player.

For these reasons alone Klay is a wonderful inspiration and a role model for younger children. This is a great book for adults and children to read to get to know more about Klay, where he came from and what he is about.

Great bio of Klay Thompson

"Klay Thompson: The Incredible Story" is all about the up and coming guard of the Golden State Warriors who is the model of hard work and ethics in the world of professional basketball. It is interesting that he learned a lot about the sport from his father, Mychal Thompson, who was a two-time champion of the Lakers. Not only did Klay improve his game and statistics each year in college and in the NBA, but he was part of the team to win the 2015 NBA finals. While his personal history is short, there is a lot to share about his life and his plays. This includes his influences and basketball heroes.
This book is a wealth of resources from his biographical story to his game statistics and critiques. This can be appealing to basketball fans or sport biography readers. It is well written and an interesting read.

A story of talent and success

This is one of the most complete biographies of Klay Thompson I ever read. The author goes in great detail about every important event from his professional and personal life. Klay Thompson is an amazing basketball shooter and his story can inspire a lot of people. He reached the high point of his career very fast. He was able to make amazing three-pointers. He signed a contract until the end of 2015 for the 2014-2015 NBA season. This is a captivating book about his childhood and career. I really love how a simple young man transformed into a successful well-known basketball star.
